FINE! Japanese antique 1900s Gorgeous Lacquer ware set of 5 Sake cups gold MAKIE urushi with crane and tortoise ceremony tool H14.6in/H37cm.

Set of five beautiful antique wood and lacquer sake cups. They are in excellent condition and quality.
Unlike most drinking vessels, they are very large, almost the size of a plate.
None of the pieces have any major damage and are ready to use.
The turtles and cranes on the rocks are precisely painted by fixing gold using a technique called 蒔絵maki-e.

This set was originally used for weddings, events, and other celebratory occasions.
In Japan, drinking sake with sake cups is called “sakazukigoto,” and is meant to strengthen bonds between people who are not related by blood.
Since medieval times, people in Japan have deepened their bonds through the sharing of sake. In Japan, it was also used to unite revolts.

Basically, it is polite to drink all the sake that is poured.
In fact, it has been used to hold water and sometimes as a pedestal on which to place trophies.

This design depicts two cranes and a couple of cranes in a harmonious relationship. The design also includes pine and plum trees, which in Japan signify longevity and lasting happiness. The crane has been used in many wedding ceremonies as a symbol of marital bliss because once a couple becomes husband and wife, they remain together for the rest of their lives.
This sake cup was probably also used in a wedding ceremony. The base is also beautiful.
It is impressive even if it is simply displayed in a store or other such setting.
