FINE! Japan antique 1800s IMARI set of 4 plates porcelain with flowers and arabesques Kanji kiln art hand paint Indigo Blue White Sometsuke For GIFT.
This pottery, called 伊万里 Imari, was made in the Edo period.
This type of plate is also called a “namasu plate” and was made to serve Japanese dishes such as “和物 aemono” (Japanese-style dishes).
Although this type of plate has been made in Japan for many years, these items reveal their age and delicate beauty when held in hand. First, note that the base color is not pure white but has a slight bluish tint, and the cobalt color is also pale and soft. The glaze is also slightly thick.
The design features floral and arabesque patterns. The reverse side also has a design, and it includes a signature typical of the Edo period.
This set is also recommended for Japanese collections.
The hand-painted designs are fired using cobalt in a technique called “ 染付sometsuke.”
Additionally, the chips have been repaired using a technique called “kintsugi,” which involves repairing with lacquer and gold, adding to the charm of the set.
This set is designed for festive occasions and comes in a wooden box, making it ideal as a gift.
