CHAGAMA and FURO Japanese antique bronze brazier and cast iron kettle, For Tea ceremony, Doan furo and Amida gama in 1970s
This is a set of an authentic 茶釜 "Chagama " tea kettle used in the tea ceremony, a bronze brazier called a 風炉 "furo". The first feature of this set is the 風炉 "furo", which is used to make a fire with charcoal and ashes, and to boil water by putting the kettle over it. In the tea ceremony, the furo is usually used from May to October. There are several types of wind furnaces. This is called as 道安 "Doan furo".
The name of this furnace is derived from a certain person. His name was 千道安 "Sen no Doan", a tea master of the Warring States Period and early Edo Period, and the eldest son of 千利休 "Sen no Rikyu".
There is a reputation that Doan's tea is dynamic. He was highly creative, and his ingenuity seemed to seek strength in simplicity.
Tea kettle, made of cast iron is called 阿弥陀釜 "Amida gama", one of the mostly used in tea ceremony. The lid of the tea kettle is made of copper and the handle is very delicate and beautiful.
Overall, the set has a solid presence. It has a cool atmosphere with no extra decoration and a sense of cleanliness.
Please note this does not include a stand for a kettle.
