This Bizen ware vase is a rare antique ceramic piece from the 1700s, known as the Ryukyu 'Devil's Arm' jar. Crafted during the Ryukyu Kingdom period in Okinawa, this Japanese ceramic vase was originally used to transport shochu on ships. Measuring approximately 9.8 inches (25 cm) tall and 3.7 inches (9.3 cm) wide, this handcrafted ceramic jar weighs 41.4 ounces (1177 grams). Its unique feature is the weighty rod shape that earned it the name “devil's arm” (Oni no ude), a tool once used as a weapon in battles against pirates, now prized as a traditional ikebana vase with rustic Japanese decor appeal.

This antique porcelain vessel reflects the wabi sabi pottery aesthetic with its rugged charm and historical significance. Although it cannot hold water for long due to invisible cracks, it remains an exceptional display piece, perfect for collectors of old Japanese kiln craft or those seeking authentic Okinawa vintage vase elements for their home.
