BIG! FINE! Japanese antique ceramic jar SHIGARAKI ware 1920s, Beautiful blue-green stripes like a waterfall, H17.3xW12.2/H44xW31cm.

Shiga Prefecture pottery and ceramic known as 信楽Shigaraki ware.
Shiga Prefecture pottery known as Shigaraki ware.
It is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is said to have begun during the Tempyo period (710-794).
This is a distinctive jar made between the end of the Edo period and the Meiji period (1868-1912). At that time, it was used for practical purposes, transporting and storing tea leaves. Therefore, they were marked by pouring this kind of glaze to clearly identify them as tea.
This style is called SUDARE (bamboo screen) in the antique world.
This is from the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912), and the glaze is more roughly applied. The natural flow of the glaze is unique and reminds one of waterfalls and water.

While designed for practical purposes, the jars boasted surprisingly stable and beautiful proportions. It is wonderful that it remains in good condition at this large size. There is a crack on the lower side, but no water leakage.
This vase is perfect for arranging large floral materials such as tree branches, and can be simply placed and displayed as a beautiful interior decoration point.
