The beauty of green glaze is known in Japan as Oribe green.
Oribe ware originated from pottery created by 古田織部 Furuta Oribe, a disciple of Rikyu, the founder of the tea ceremony, and a military commander during the Momoyama period (1573–1603).
This plate was made to serve sweets in the tea ceremony.
It is unique with its handle and playful shape. The design is based on a gourd, which is an auspicious motif in Japan, and is considered to symbolize warding off evil and bringing good fortune, warding off evil spirits, prosperity of descendants, and prosperity of the family.
The intentional distortion in the design allows you to feel the irregular rhythm unique to Oribe.
It comes in a wooden box, making it the perfect gift.
