Antique Japanese Wood Carving Gegyo - Buddhist Temple Cloud Pedestal EDO

This is called a 懸魚 gegyo. It is a decorative board attached to the bottom of the roof gable board, which can be seen in traditional Japanese buildings. Its main role is practical, preventing rainwater from seeping into the roof, and as a talisman to protect the building from fire.

It looks cool when simply placed on the wall, but it also has a very strong presence when incorporated into a building, as if it were part of the architecture.
It is also recommended to use it as a flower vase or a base for important items.
