Antique Japanese Wood Amitabha Buddha Statue, 1700s Edo Period

This is a fairly old wooden Buddha statue. It is called Amitabha Nyorai.
Amitabha Nyorai is a Buddha said to save all living beings and lead them to the Pure Land.
Shakyamuni Nyorai is also called Mu-Nyorai, named after his infinite lifespan.
Amitabha Nyorai was introduced to Japan around the early 7th century. This Buddha statue was created in the 1700s.

Over the years, the Japanese paint has peeled, discolored, and weathered. This gives it a unique aura. The expression is calm, almost childlike. Japanese Buddha statues have distinctive facial features depending on the era, and the older the statue, the more childlike the facial features become.
It is depicted sitting on a lotus flower.
