The Story & Symbolism:
This stunning deep indigo-blue 暖簾 Noren was originally commissioned for a edo era. This noren features the character “吉” (Kichi) as its crest design at the top. Crafted entirely by hand from slightly stiff, thick cotton fabric, it possesses a distinctive charm. The deepened color from aging adds to its beauty.
The reverse side also features the pattern due to the resist dyeing technique, but the color has darkened over time, so the pattern is not clearly visible from the back.
There is a section at the top for threading a rod, but the rod is not included.

This fabric was originally popular from the mid-Edo period through the Meiji era, used to adorn life's special occasions. For example, it was draped over household goods during weddings.
It's a recommended item showcasing Japan's traditional and beautiful design sensibility. Ready for immediate use.

This piece carries the authentic 'Scars of Time.' The natural fraying and small tears are not defects, but the silent testimony of its long history serving a noble Japanese household.

Condition & Quality:
The fabric is a little stiff and thick, and because it is very old, there are some fraying and tears. It is very old, made using fabric from the late Edo period, with the rod-through section added during the Showa era. It can be used immediately.
