The Story & Symbolism:
This stunning deep indigo-blue 暖簾 Noren was originally commissioned for a old noble house. Unlike modern printed versions, this is authentically dyed, meaning the intricate patterns are visible with equal clarity on both sides.
This piece carries the authentic 'Scars of Time.' The natural fraying and small tears are not defects, but the silent testimony of its long history serving a noble Japanese household.
The family crest known as “立涌に束ね熨斗文 Tatewaku ni Tabane Noshi-mon” is dyed onto the fabric. This is a very old crest, created in the late Edo period. The slightly stiff, thick linen fabric is entirely handmade, giving it a distinctive character. The deepened color from aging is also beautiful. The slightly translucent feel of the fabric adds to its pleasant atmosphere. However, there is some damage from aging (partial tears). While it does not affect usability, please review the photos.
There is a slot at the top for inserting a rod, but the rod is not included.
This crest, known as “Tatewaku ni Tabanenoshimon” (Rising Waves with Bundled Noshimon), is an auspicious family crest cherished in Japan since the Heian period.
The main motif, 熨斗 noshi, is a traditional Japanese wrapping used for gifts.
Furthermore, 立涌 tatewaku represents the rising of steam.
This crest carries auspicious meanings: receiving blessings from many people, sharing abundant happiness with others, symbolizing bonds between people and longevity. It also implies rising fortune, likened to the ascending steam.
Condition & Quality:
The fabric is a little stiff and thick, and because it is very old, there are some fraying and tears. Although it is not enough to cause major problems in use, please understand that there is some damage. It can be used immediately.
