This bronze vase was once placed in front of a Buddha statue as a pair and was the main object of worship in temples.
While modern floral arrangements have been designed to mimic this shape, this piece is made of very old bronze, giving it a wonderful atmosphere. Old bronze, which has darkened with age, is called “古銅 KODOU old copper” and is popular in Japan.
The color change of the bronze such as patina creates a cool atmosphere over time. The distinctive square swirl ears are said to have a protective meaning, originating from the thunder family crest.
