A pair of Kintsugi Tokkuri bottles and cups, Japanese antique porcelain sake bottle and cups with old words in Kanji Chinese characters H3.9in
These are called 徳利 Tokkuri, which are decanter-like items used for drinking sake and cups with a raised base.Baked in Kishu kiln in Wakayama prefecture. Though Kishu kiln has its history from the 15th century, it ended once when the Edo shogunate collapsed with the birth of the new government. Because this area was directly controlled by the shogunate, the shogun's descendants worked hard to revive the culture and rebuilt the kiln. This bottle is modeled after gourd with Chinese old words, "遠仁者疎道" on one side and "不苦者疎智" on another. This means "A person without compassion for others is ignorant of human nature, and one who has never struggled lacks true wisdom." A mouth of a bottle is repaired by technique called by Kintsugi, repairing with lacquer and gold. An aged bottle looks better than ever with gold shining. Three cups are slightly different in size, large, medium and small. With a dedicated wooden box.
