These are "Ko-Imari" (Old Imari) ware pieces created during the Meiji period (19th century).

This bowl is frequently used for vegetable and seafood soups served near the middle of a Kaiseki (traditional Japanese multi-course) meal. Though occasionally used for cold dishes in summer, it is especially appreciated in winter: lifting the lid releases a delicate plume of steam and rich aroma. Extending seamlessly across six facets of both the bowl and its lid are auspicious traditional motifs—such as cranes, pine, the shippo (seven treasures) design, and wave patterns—rendered in indigo, red, green, yellow, and gold overglaze enamels. Crafted using exclusively natural pigments, the piece exhibits the subtle, muted color palette typical of its period, complemented by an elegantly aged gold.
