This candlestick faithfully depicts the shape of a lotus flower. Its three-dimensional form is achieved by hammering thin copper, making it a luxurious item that requires a great deal of effort. It was originally used in temples.

The lotus flower holds great significance in Buddhism. Old proverbs such as "A lotus in the mud" and "Rise from the mud, unstained by it" are based on the Buddhist idea that even if one is born into a mundane world, symbolized by mud, a large lotus flower (enlightenment) will bloom.

In other words, the word "lotus" that was introduced to Japan from China is thought to refer to a lotus flower whose flowers do not touch the water's surface, and the lotus has come to symbolize purity.

This is an elegant, luxurious candlestick, so we recommend displaying it as is. The color will change over time, but this is also part of its charm.
