FINE! Japanese vintage "matcha" green tea caddy with golden Autumn flowers Wajima Makie, "棗 natsume", for tea ceremony H2.8in/H7cm.
In tea ceremony, a host entertains guests with a lot of items carefully chosen. There are three items which are superior to others and a host brings to tea rooms at last before making tea. They are "茶碗 chawan" ,tea bowl, ”薄器 usuki", tea container and "茶杓 chasyaku", tea spoon.
”薄器 usuki" are made of wood, mostly lacquered with painting. There are two types of Usuki by its shape, "棗 natsume" and "中次 nakatsugi". Both are of two parts, body and lid. Difference is the place of a joint. Natsume's lid is shorter than its body but Nakatsugi has a ligature in the center.
In the tea ceremony, the master of the tea house entertains his guests with carefully selected articles. There are three sacred objects that the master brings into the tea room for the last time before preparing the tea. They are the tea bowl, the thin bowl, and the tea scoop.
The thin bowl is made of wood and is often lacquered.
Beautiful maki-e lacquerware with motifs of autumn grasses and flowers. If you look closely, you can see small seashells embedded in the surface, which shine when they are exposed to light, making it even more beautiful. The work is gorgeous not only because of the maki-e technique of fixing gold with lacquer, but also because of the Raden (sea shells) technique of fixing thin shells with lacquer.
This is the work of Haruho, a Wajima-nuri maki-e lacquer-work artist. His details are not known in detail, but you can feel his very wonderful maki-e technique when you see the item. If you look closely, you can see that chrysanthemums and hagi (bush clovers) are drawn with many layers of gold in very fine detail, which gives the item an elegant and luxurious look.
Another characteristic of Wajima-nuri is that it is finished with many layers of lacquer, which gives it a comfortable weight when held in the hand and increases its sense of luxury.
In the tea ceremony, we enjoy changing utensils according to the season, and while we recommend using them at the end of summer and in autumn, you are not restricted to this, but can enjoy them according to your own taste.
Excellent workmanship and comes with the original box.
Recommended as a gift.
