Vintage Japanese Kogo', Tiger Ceramic Incense Container, SignedJP

Handcrafted in ceramic and signed by the artist, the small tiger kōgō evokes the vintage japanese kogo tradition with a striped yellow glaze and a compact footprint suitable for shelves and tokonoma. Designed historically as an incense container, this collectible tiger art works equally well as a minimalist shelf accent, small trinket box, or chanoyu accessory. Its wabi-sabi surface and practical size make it a thoughtful authentic pottery gift for lovers of traditional home decor. Lightweight yet solid, it carries an artist’s mark on the base and arrives gift-wrapped in a boxed presentation ready to give with incense options included.

Product details

This signed Japanese pottery sculpture is an original small kōgō shaped like a seated tiger, crafted with a yellow ground and black stripe accents. Historically, kōgō held kōboku (aromatic wood) or small pieces of incense during tea ceremony rituals; today the piece serves as an incense holder, decorative object, or compact trinket keeper for rings and pins. The surface shows intentional irregularities consistent with wabi-sabi aesthetics and careful vintage condition; the artist’s mark is visible on the base.

Incense paper option

When you choose to include incense, the boxed set offers 30 sheets of washi paper incense made on Awaji Island by Kunjudo with a reusable metal clip. Each sheet burns approximately five minutes and the compact box (102 × 43 × 13 mm) is travel-friendly. Available fragrances range from Floral Warmth and Elegant Agarwood to Mellow Sandalwood and Smoky Comfort.

Care and use

Handle the ceramic sculpture gently; avoid sudden temperature changes and prolonged soaking. To use as an incense container, place a single paper incense sheet with the included clip on a non-flammable surface near the kōgō or inside its bowl if using as a holder. For display as a chanoyu accessory or minimalist shelf accent, position on a stable surface away from direct sunlight to preserve glaze tones.

Provenance and condition

Origin: Japan (artist-signed). Condition: very good vintage condition with no significant chips or repairs noted. The compact scale and light weight make it an easy-to-ship authentic pottery gift that complements traditional home decor or contemporary minimalist interiors.

Packaging

Each piece ships in a paper gift box and is gift-wrapped at no extra charge. Choose an incense scent at checkout to bundle the washi paper incense with the kōgō for a ready-to-give artisan ceramic decor set.
