Craftsmanship and design

This kettle exemplifies traditional Japanese metalworking: the tsuchime hammer marks give the surface tactile depth while the uchidashi repoussé on the lid creates a raised motif that reads like a sun or flower. The form follows its function — a curved spout and folding handle support pouring during tea ceremony rituals or everyday boiling. As a hand hammered vessel and metal tea pot, the piece communicates utilitarian history and subtle decorative presence suitable for display or practical use.

Condition details

The kettle is vintage and shows age-appropriate wear: minor stains, small scratches, and light rust spots consistent with regular use and storage. There is no major damage and the interior is in good, usable condition without significant rust. These characteristics align with Wabisabi collectibles where patina and evidence of use contribute to the object's character.

Use, display, and care

Use this item as a craft water boiler for tea preparation, a tea serving item for ceremonial or casual service, or as a focal accent in rustic interior art arrangements. To care for copper and preserve the tsuchime texture, rinse and dry after use, avoid abrasive cleaners that remove patina, and polish selectively if you prefer a brighter finish. Store with the lid slightly ajar to reduce moisture buildup.

Authenticity and provenance

The visible hand-hammering and uchidashi relief indicate skilled, traditional techniques consistent with antique Japanese metalware. Measurements, weight, and material are provided to help verify fit and function for collectors and tea practitioners.
