Shino Tea Bowl Antique Japanese Matcha Cup - Handmade Pottery Chawan with Kanji Signature

This is an old tea bowl made of 志野 Shino ware.

There is an abstract painting on the front. The design appears to depict a loosely stylized pattern inspired by short grass growing on the ground. The glazing is intentionally rough, leaving the raw clay exposed around the rim. With pitted pinholes formed by boiling glaze on its side and dramatic glaze drips reaching all the way to the foot, this chawan embodies a wild, powerful, and unrefined character

Shino mainly uses feldspar, a finely crushed stone, for the glaze. Because of its high melting point, feldspar glaze requires high temperature and long firing time in a kiln. It is a highly viscous glaze, and the finished product is thick and milky white. 

Also, as the color of the clay becomes darker with age, the contrast with the glaze becomes even more apparent and interesting.

• We accept returns within 7 days of delivery. For returns due to buyer’s remorse or personal reasons (e.g., changed your mind), the buyer is responsible for all round-trip shipping costs (original shipping + return shipping) and any applicable processing fees. The refund will be processed once the item is returned safely in its original condition.
