Red lacquer wooden sake cup with a SAMURAI family crest (foxglove tree), Japanese vintage wooden urushi tableware "SAKAZUKI" 3.5in/9cm.
They are ideal for drinking sake, but they are also beautiful when displayed in a room.
Known as “sake cup 盃 sakazuki” in Japan, they come in a variety of patterns, making them popular to collect and enjoy.
In the center is a design of a family crest with a paulownia flower motif.
This family crest, called 五七桐 goshichi-kiri, is a paulownia crest with seven flowers standing in the center and five on either side. It is the most prestigious of the paulownia crests and is more prestigious than the “五三桐 Gosan-kiri” crest. It is known as the crest of the emperor family, but was often given to the Ashikaga, Toyotomi, and other families in power rather than used by the emperors themselves.
The name of the shrine is written in kanji characters on the back.
It comes in a wooden box, making it an ideal gift.
