RARE! Large! Japanese vintage DARUMA doll wood slab Burl ornament Sculpture, ZEN master, buddhist monk hand craft art H24in/H61cm.

This 達磨 Daruma doll is hand-carved, taking advantage of the natural shape of the wood. The unique texture of the wood is beautiful, as if the skin of the tree has been wrung out.
For a moment it looks like a wooden ornament, but upon closer inspection, the face and feet are carved as if the entire piece were a daruma.
The unique facial expression evokes complex emotions such as melancholy, sadness, and compassion.

Daruma, the motif, refers to the monk who introduced 禅 Zen Buddhism from India to China.
坐禅 zazen” was made in the image of Daruma.
Zazen” means to unify one's mind in a state of continuous dreaming by crossing one's legs and straightening one's posture.
The motif is the Daruma doll, famous among Buddhists. It is recommended for its very cool atmosphere.
