RARE! Large! Japanese antique EDO 1700s furniture wooden signboard of the Restaurant shop/wood carving cool Kanji calligraphy W31.5in/W80cm.
This is a very interesting restaurant sign that makes use of the undulation of natural wood. It was made in the late Edo period or around the Meiji period, so it is very old and has a wonderful atmosphere of age.
The inscribed text is Oryoku (御料理 cuisine/Restaurant).
The lacquer and wood have deteriorated over time, peeling and discoloring to create a unique texture. It is a piece that can only be made over time.
The letters are covered with gold leaf.
It is unique and eye-catching, whether simply displayed on a wall or used as a store sign.
On the back side, there is an embedded metal fitting through which a string can be threaded.

condition...
It is in very good condition, but there are small scratches and dirt due to aging.
The gold and lacquer peels and discolors over time, but that is the main attraction of this.
I list antiques that sometimes have chips, rubbings and cracks
as they are very old antiques so please check the images and understand the current
condition before buying.
