RARE! Japanese antique furniture lacquer gold MAKIE large wooden tub, with river and flower plants painting Edo 1800s H20.4in/51.7cm.
This served as a bath for babies of nobles called princesses and feudal lords.
The inside of the large tub is decorated with beautiful maki-e, which is so gorgeous and graceful that it is hard to believe that it was intended for practical use. The quality of the maki-e is museum quality.
The flowers and plants blooming on the banks of the river where the water flows are elegantly expressed.
Maki-e is a technique of fixing gold with lacquer. It takes a lot of time and skill.
A transparent coating is applied on the rim to prevent the lacquer from peeling off. There are other areas of restoration as well. This can be used with water.
