RARE! Japanese antique 1923s book leather cover with Kanji traditional for Visiting shrines and collecting stamps old blank notebook.
This notebook is a very valuable item. The cover is made of thick black leather, and the inside is Japanese paper. The name of the owner and a seal are boldly painted on the cover with lacquer. The red letters are impressive.
This notebook was originally intended for collecting stamps and signatures from shrines and temples across Japan. Japanese people have long cherished this practice as a symbol of their visits and as a memento of their travels. Looking at the date written in the notebook, it reads May 1923. Only the first few pages of the notebook have stamps, while the rest are mostly blank.
The reason becomes clear when you understand the history.
In September 1923, the Great Kanto Earthquake struck Japan. Perhaps the owner of this notebook was caught up in the disaster and was no longer able to collect temple stamps.
The blank notebook not only reflects history but also evokes a sense of sadness at the sudden end of a life filled with dreams.
It is recommended for recording important things.
