Japanese vintage vase "BIZEN ware" pottery flower vase, rhombus tube shape with a signatured wooden box H7.7xW3.5in/ 19.5x9cm

This is a pottery made in Okayama prefecture called Bizen ware.
From the Kofun period (mid-3rd century to 7th century) to the Heian period (794 to 1185), there were scattered pottery kilns that were the origin of Bizen ware called Sue pottery. During the Kamakura period (1185 – 1333), the current brown pottery was burned. It is a firing method in which sufficient oxygen is added to the kiln, and the characteristic is that it is baked in a warm color. It is hard-baked without using glaze, and the natural beauty of the soil is beautiful. Another reason for its popularity is that the colors change in the kiln and no one is the same. It is said that the more you use it, the better the color will change without getting tired of it.

This vase, crafted around the 1960s, possesses a design that seamlessly blends vintage and modern aesthetics, making it a versatile piece that complements any space and harmonizes with any flower arrangement. The rhomboid shape, rather than a rectangular prism, lends a light and airy feel, while the glaze applied to all four sides transforms in the kiln, creating unique expressions that resemble an abstract painting. The bold spatula marks on two sides evoke the image of plants just beginning to sprout from the earth.
