Japanese vintage SATSUMA ware porcelain vase flower with A couple of pheasants hand painting kiln ceramic craft H9.8×6.3in/H25×16cm.
This pottery is called 薩摩焼Satsuma-yaki. Satsuma-yaki is said to have started after the Warring States period. In its heyday, in 1867 (Keio 3), during the transition from the Edo period to the Meiji period, the Satsuma Clan exhibited Satsuma-yaki at the World Exposition in Paris, where it impressed Europeans and was popularly called "SATSUMA".
It precisely depicts a couple of two pheasants on a rock. Button flowers and colorful feathers of the pheasants are vivid in this work. If you look closely, you can see one small butterfly flying on the reverse side. On the back side is written "Satsuma-yaki" in Kanji characters.
