Japanese vintage hand paint and block printing art of Tale of Genji/Drifting boat with Kanji Snow and Boats H8.1×W12.2in/H20.5×W31cm.

It is based on one of the tales of the Heian period, “The Tale of Genji”. The Tale of Genji describes the life and love of a nobleman in the Heian period.
This tale is called “総角Agemaki". Agemaki is one of the hairstyles from ancient times to the Heian period. The story is about Kaoru, the son between Hikaru Genji and a princess named Onna Sannomiya, who falls in love with a princess named Ooikimi but is unable to fulfill her love, and the other dies of illness. The story also depicts another pair of love exchanges between Ooinokimi's sister and another man.
The agemaki of this title appears in part of a poem that Kaoru sent to the woman.

On the left, the house is depicted where the family lives quietly in a house deep in the mountains and writes 和歌waka poems. The right side seems to represent the changing colors of the mountains at the end of autumn. The scene of deep mountain mist and the characters' unconnected feelings are superimposed and expressed. The left side is written in waka-like calligraphy.
