This is a delicately crafted bronze bird ornament. It depicts an OMOTO plant, an evergreen perennial in the lily-of-the-valley family native to Japan's warm mountainous regions. Its distinctive feature is its firm red berries. Cultivating this plant as an ornamental became popular around the Edo period.
The little bird perched on the OMOTO leaf is also beautifully rendered. It's a charming piece that conveys a sense of movement.
