Japanese Noh Dance Print Masaaki Tanaka Serigraph, W19.5in/49.5cm

A hand-pulled, limited edition serigraph on paper presents the Japanese Noh dance print depicting "Rojo" (Old Woman) from the Ennen no Mai, signed and numbered by Masaaki Tanaka. The print measures H 13.2 in × W 19.5 in (about H 33.5 cm × W 49.5 cm) and carries the artist’s handwritten note identifying Motsuji Temple in Hiraizumi, Iwate, with the dance title and provenance. Tanaka’s pop-art color palette and manga-influenced composition bring contemporary energy to a centuries-old performing art, making this original screen print suitable for collectors of Japanese art prints and fans of authentic folk art and minimalist interiors.

About the artwork

This print captures a moment from Ennen no Mai, a dance designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, with visual choices that reference both traditional Noh masks and contemporary visual culture. Masaaki Tanaka applies vibrant, pop-art-style colors and clear outlines that recall manga and anime aesthetics while maintaining the formal rhythm of the dance. The handwritten note on the image documents the performance piece and place, adding verifiable context for collectors of authentic folk art and Asian gallery prints.

Artist and provenance

Masaaki Tanaka (born Tokyo, 1947) is credited on the sheet with a signature and edition number; the annotation specifies the subject and Motsuji Temple in Hiraizumi, Iwate. The combination of Tanaka’s recognizable style and the documented note supports attribution to the artist without implying institutional provenance beyond the information on the print.
