This box is made of wood, urushi lacquer and gold.
In Japan, these boxes are used in Buddhist temples to store important sutras. The set also contains sutras made of paper.
This is called the eight wisteria crest. The wisteria flower has long been a favorite plant in Japan since ancient times because of its long life span and fertility. It is a representative crest of the prosperous Fujiwara clan.
Overall, it is in good condition and ready to use. Includes 10 booklets of sutras written in kanji characters. There are some cracks and signs of repair.
