This is a set of four small lacquerware plates. Its rim and a family crest called as "Mitsu Tomoe" are painted in Gold. Tomoe, a swirling comma-shaped design, is the oldest Japanese traditional motif which represents the flow of energy. Very convenient size for a lot of purpose. Well preserved over than a century.
