This Japanese antique tea bowl is a rare masterpiece that beautifully fuses the craftsmanship of Shino ware with the timeless elegance characteristic of Joseon-style bowls. Created in the 19th century, this matcha bowl features a thick glaze finish that embodies the refined artistry of Japanese kilns. It offers a perfect blend of aesthetic pleasure and practicality, making it suitable not only for the tea ceremony but also as an interior décor piece that evokes a rustic "Zen" atmosphere.

This handmade ceramic piece measures approximately 7 cm in height and 11.5 cm in diameter, weighing about 305 g. Uniquely, it is crafted from iron-rich clay—rather than the standard Shino clay—and finished with a natural feldspar glaze; this combination creates distinctive effects such as *kannyū* (fine crackle patterns) and *yōhen* (color variations resulting from the firing process). These unique patterns and markings attest to its authentic handmade nature, while its texture reflects the spirit of *wabi-sabi*—an aesthetic deeply cherished by tea practitioners. Areas where the glaze is thinner (known as "insect-eaten" marks) and scattered black speckles further enhance its antique character.

The item comes with its original *tomobako* (signed wooden storage box), which ensures safe keeping and elevates its value as a collector's item. It is in excellent condition with a solid structure, ready to be used immediately for meditation or tea ceremonies, or displayed as a striking decorative object. - An antique Shino-yaki tea bowl featuring a style inspired by the Joseon Dynasty.

- Dimensions: Height approx. 7 cm, rim diameter approx. 11.5 cm, weight approx. 305 g.

- Crafted from fine-grained, relatively hard clay and finished with a thick glaze.

- Characterized by features unique to handmade pottery, such as *kannyu* (fine crackle patterns in the glaze) and *yōhen* (unpredictable kiln-fire effects).

- Embodies the aesthetic of *wabi-sabi* through details like "insect-bite" marks and dark speckling.

- Comes with a traditional *tomobako* (original wooden storage box) that also serves to protect the piece.

As a testament to its quality and heritage, this tea bowl has been carefully preserved over the centuries, maintaining its original form and beauty. Embodying history, artistry, and the spirit of Zen, this piece offers a rare opportunity for collectors and tea ceremony enthusiasts to own something truly special.

It is ideal for use in authentic tea ceremonies or as a piece of rustic "Zen" décor for the home. The subtle variations in the glaze and the crackle patterns evoke a sense of beauty found in imperfection, inviting moments of quiet contemplation and appreciation. While its sturdy construction makes it durable enough for daily use, it retains the delicate beauty that gives it such a unique character.
