This is an antique matcha bowl from the late Edo period, featuring exquisite amber-colored glaze and relief-style molding; it is a fine example of Seto ware.

Its design is truly distinctive—a rare and elaborate creation even among traditional Seto wares.

A standout feature is the figure of Daikoku-sama at the center; he is a native deity and a symbol of good fortune in Japan. The way he reveals himself only after the matcha has been consumed is a charming, unique touch that is sure to bring a smile to your face.

The bowl itself is shaped like a flower, and the intricate craftsmanship extends to the floral arabesque patterns rendered in relief on both the interior and exterior surfaces.

The passage of time has deepened the colors, lending the piece a rich, exquisite character.

If you are looking for a bowl that stands out from the ordinary—one that delights the person using it—we invite you to enjoy this unique piece.

It beautifully embodies the Japanese sensibility of finding divinity in all things.
