This is a beautiful antique sutra desk that was used in a temple. It is decorated with lacquer and gold leaf, a technique known as maki-e. Furthermore, shells are embedded in it using a technique called raden, giving it a beautiful, lustrous appearance. The flowers and birds carved from the reddish wood are also a joy to look at.
Up close, you can see that the arabesque patterns are painted with great intricacy.
It would look very cool if placed outside the altar to display small items, or used as a display in a shop.
