Japanese antique bronze mirror Kagami with relief of leaves, traditional Japan Geisha accessory SAMURAI Kagami 1700s H9.6in/H24.5cm.

This item was made in the mid-Edo period.
It is inscribed with the name of 藤原光長Fujiwara Mitsunaga, a famous craftsman of making mirrors in Kanji characters. The wisteria flower motif is beautiful.
In Japan, mirrors were all made of bronze until the Edo period. The polished surface and the opposite side were decorated with relief designs, patterns, and characters.
The history of human mirrors is long, and in both the West and the East, mirrors were often used for ceremonial purposes and were highly valued.
This mirror is an item that was made after such ceremonial mirrors began to be used for general and practical purposes. In Japan, this is called a 手鏡TE KAGAMI hand mirror. This style has been made since the Muromachi period. The older the item is, the smaller the size is, especially in the older period. This is because as Edo flourished, prostitutes' hairstyles became larger and more flamboyant, creating a demand for mirrors that allowed for a larger view, and mirrors became larger and larger. By that time, they were already being used on a stand rather than being held by hand.
This is quite old and has quite a bit of green-blue rust on it from when the item was still hand-held.
This rust is also very beautiful and a work of art created by time.

It would be cool to display it on the wall or stand it on a pedestal. It is small in size but has a strong presence.
