This smaller form of the Japanese buddhist bell is called a 半鐘half bell. This type of bell is even smaller than a half bell, but the sound is good.

In the old days in Japan, they were mainly used for signaling in temples or tea ceremony.

The temple bell was not only rung to signal the time, but it is believed that those who listen to its sound have the merit of escaping from all suffering and attaining enlightenment. It also became a tool to announce the start of Buddhist services in the morning and evening, and with its solemn sound, it came to play an important role in connecting the temple with its neighbors.

It is said that the bell conveys the Buddhist view of impermanence.

While the bell itself is antique, the stand dates from a different period. The suspension

fitting at the top is designed to look as though two dragons are guarding the bell. The bell features a simple yet beautiful design, boasting a rich, deep hue developed over time.

The set includes the lacquered wooden stand and the striker; all components are in excellent condition and ready for immediate use.
