Japanese antique bronze flower vase USUBATA with legs, birds waves Mt Fuji design traditional temple style IKEBANA 1920s H9.1in/H23cm.

A vase of this shape is called a 薄口USUKUCHI"thin-lipped" or 薄端USUBATA"thin-ended" vase. This is one of the metal vases introduced from China in the Muromachi period (1336-1573). It has a bottle-shaped body with a wide, shallow upper plate that can be removed from the center opening. It is used in the Ikenobo and Koryu schools of ikebana.
When actually arranging flowers, water should be filled to the top of the hole and not into the dish-like part.
When decorated with large branches, it is very cool and gorgeous. In Japan, these vases are used in temples and aristocratic ceremonies.

This is a very old and cool atmosphere.
The design is unique, with two birds flying over the waves.
The back side has a pine forest and Mt. Fuji in relief behind it.
The handle is a Chinese herb called 霊芝Reishi, a type of mushroom. It has long been favored as a motif because it is prized as a good luck charm because it does not rot.
