Japanese antique bamboo woven basket with a handle, hand craft For IKEBANA Tea ceremony, Hana-kago 1960s H11.4×9.4in / H29×24cm
The shape of this bamboo basket is called "fish basket style", and it is derived from the traditional baskets used by fishermen to hold their catch and keep them alive in the water. The diagonally woven bamboo, running horizontally, represents the shape of water, such as waves or the flow of a river. The resulting amber color of the bamboo is a hue known as "susudake" (smoked bamboo). This color is achieved by polishing bamboo that has been used in old Japanese houses and smoked by a charcoal fire over many years. The inner bamboo container is included.
