Japanese antique 1800s BIZEN Monkey with fruit doll statue with Kanji signature, animal ornament ceramic statue hand craft H5.9in/H15cm.

This is an old 備前 Bizen ware monkey figurine. The figure is humorous as it dances a The monkey is looking up with a cute face and holding a peach in his hand. A signature is engraved on the side of the rock, but it is unique because it is integrated with the rock.
This work dates from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. While many newer Bizen ware dolls are on the market, old ones like this are valuable and popular. Bizen that has become more austere in color over time is called 古備前 Kobizen.

The roots of Bizen Pottery date back to the Kofun period. It is a pottery with a very long history, and Okayama Prefecture is a famous production center.
Its characteristic feature is the ultimate simplicity of the pottery, which is neither glazed nor painted.
It is fired at a high temperature of 1,200 to 1,300 degrees Celsius, and patterns are created by the nature of the clay, the way the kiln is filled, changes in kiln temperature, and the ashes and charcoal used during firing. The deep handmade flavor is appealing, and the more it is used, the deeper the color becomes.
It is not a major damage. There is a Kanji character inscription on the back.
