Green tea bowl Japanese vintage CHAWAN "SHINO" ware handmade Matcha Tea Cup Tea Ceremony ceramic with box, for GIFT 4.7in/12cm.
This work is called 志野Shino Tea Bowl and is said to be the most Japanese pottery.
It is called 鼠志野Nezumi-Shino and has a beautiful, elegant gray glaze. In contrast, the orange-tinged brown color is called fire color and is one of the characteristics of Shino tea bowls. These are areas where the glaze is thin, producing a reddish color called scarlet.
The never-ending coloring makes them easy to use regardless of the season.
This pottery, called Shino, is a type of Mino ware, a white-glazed pottery produced in present-day Gifu Prefecture during the Azuchi-Momoyama period in the 1500s. There are several types of Shino, including Akashino and Shino, and some techniques are designated as Important Intangible Cultural Properties.
