FINE! Japanese vintage cast iron kettle For Tea ceremony with a copper lid, "Amida-gama" Famous Kettle Master Box 1960s W10.2in/W26cm.
茶釜Chagama. This kettle has a shape called the Amida kettle, which was made by a famous kettle maker "Jyoyoshi Sudo" . It is said to be one of the shapes favored by 利休Rikyu, the master of the tea ceremony.
It is characterized by a rather small mouth with a taut shoulder and a hole near the shoulder for hanging a ring called kan-tsuki, which has a devil's face on it. It has a solid sense of stability and presence. This is basically a slightly larger size made for use in a furnace.
The creator, Jyoyoshi Sudo, was a well-known 釜師 kamashi (tea kettle master) who produced tea kettles and tetsubin (iron kettles) used primarily as tea ceremony utensils. His works are especially appreciated in the world of tea ceremony and are known for their elaborate techniques and beautiful designs. The lid made of copper is also very delicate and beautiful. The kettle also has a signature in Kanji characters.
Furthermore, the wonderful thing about this kettle is that the surface of the kettle is coated with lacquer, which prevents water stains and other marks from forming on the surface and keeps the kettle beautiful for a long time. Only the finest kettles have this surface treatment. The excellence and ease of use of this kettle can be felt as soon as it is used.
The original wooden box and removable handle on a ring are also included.
