Japanese Antique sculpture From Buddhist temple statue of 観音菩薩kannon bodhisattva shrine 1800 Edo era wood hand craft Buddhist alter H18.7×11.8in.

This Buddha statue and its container, called a ZUSHI厨子, is one of the Buddha images that were preserved in a nearby shrine when an old temple in the countryside of Nagano Prefecture was closed down. Other Buddha statues that were preserved in the same place are also listed.
This Buddha is called 観音菩薩Kannon bodhisattva. It is very old, dating from the mid to late Edo period.
The overall atmosphere of age is very cool. The Buddha image has lost the hands and other parts that were attached to its back. The image of the Buddha sitting on a lotus flower and peacefully joining his hands together is very peaceful to look at.
ZUSHI is a place to enshrine Buddhist statues, paintings, etc. It is generally a cupboard-shaped Buddhist altar with double doors on the front, a roof and a pedestal.
It is also large in size and is made of wood, lacquer, gold leaf, and metal. There are some stains and flakes from age. The metal parts are also delicately crafted by hand.

There are no theories on the origin or gender of 観音Guanyin Bodhisattva. It is said to be a fusion of indigenous Indian gods and Buddhism, for example. The word "観音Kannon" is said to be derived from Sanskrit, coined from "observed (avalokita)" + "sound/voice (svara). The gender is often said to be female. She is believed to have a heart like a mother's, and to have a vast and boundless compassion for all sentient beings, removing their suffering and giving them ease.

condition...
It is in good condition, but there are scratches and dirt due to aging. The Buddha has lost his side hand and other parts of his body. There are also some scratches and peeling of lacquer on the body. However, there is no problem in displaying it.

I list antiques that sometimes have chips, rubbings and cracks
as they are very old antiques so please check the images and understand the current
condition before buying.
