This is a beautiful hanging scroll depicting a winter scenery with a pair of mandarin ducks and bamboo leaves. In Japan, mandarin ducks are known as birds that announce the arrival of winter, and since they are always in pairs, they also represent loving couples. You can feel the harsh cold from the bamboo leaves heavily covered in snow, but the fruit of the Smilax china peeking out beneath them is likely a precious food source for the mandarin ducks. The moment when two ducks are playfully about to swoop straight down to peck at the berries is dynamically and effectively captured within the proportions of a long, narrow hanging scroll.

Painted by Keiho (1884-1971) who was born in a snowy mountain village in Gunma, they continued to paint birds and flowers amidst nature throughout his life. His signature and stamp on the left.

Painted on silk and is also surrounded by silk. The shaft tip is not resin.
There are stains and torn at edges of the silk cloth.
