FINE! Japanese antique 1800s Edo Tiger art ink brush painting hanging scroll 土佐 Tosa school KAKEJIKU with BOX H57.5in/146cm.

This hanging scroll (kakejiku) features an old painting by 土佐光孚 Tosa Mitsuzane (1818-1829), a painter of the Tosa School, created during the Edo period. The surrounding silk mounting was redone in the Showa era. The box is also not original. Because of this, the scroll is in very good condition and can be displayed and enjoyed immediately. This particular scroll is rendered solely with varying shades of ink, a style known as ink wash painting (suibokuga). Tosa Mitsuzane was born into a lineage of Tosa School painters in Kyoto, who served the Imperial Palace and court as official artists for generations.
The Tosa School was a prominent Japanese painting school from the Muromachi to Edo periods. It specialized in Yamato-e (大和絵), a traditional Japanese painting style distinct from Chinese-influenced art.

If you look closely at this hanging scroll, you'll see a charming depiction of a flying crane and a turtle looking up at it. In the center, there are auspicious Japanese symbols: pine, bamboo, and plum trees. The unique way space is utilized without over-detailing is quite interesting. Up close, the cranes, expressed with minimal lines, are splendid. It's painted on paper, with silk mounting, and wooden roller ends.

This is called KAKEJIKU a hanging scroll, and is a calligraphy or oriental painting on silk or paper.
In Japan, masters store various types of hanging scrolls. And he hangs a drawing scroll which represents the season and calligraphy scrolls which implies his feelings or message to his guests.
Another good point is that it can be rolled up and stored compactly.
