This tea bowl is a matcha bowl with very beautiful and gentle colors. The color changing gradation is elegant and you will never get tired of looking at it. It is in good condition and is highly recommended.There is a kanji signature on the back.
The name is called 赤楽Aka-raku, which is made by applying iron oxide clay to the bare clay to give it a red color and then firing it with a transparent glaze (Uwagusuri).
This shape is also called 筒型(tsutsu-nari)cylindrical, and is recommended for winter because of its excellent heat retention properties. This shape is also stable and gives a sense of solidity and security.
And This is called "RAKU-YAKI" and refers to pottery made with only hands and spatula without using a potter's wheel. It is classified as "千家十職SENKE JISSHYOKU". 千家十職 is a honorific name for ten craftsmen such as famous painters and joiners involved in the tea ceremony.
In Japan, there is a traditional tea ceremony called SADO. In SADO, the master of the ceremony invites guests and serves Japanese traditional tea called matcha.
The spirit of SADO is based on Zen philosophy.During the Kamakura period, as Zen became popular in Japan, so did SADO. After that, in Azuchi-Momoyama period, SEN-NO-RIKYU invented “WABICHA” which became the origin of modern Sado.
