Fine green tea bowl Japanese antique CHAWAN old"ORIBE" ware handmade Matcha Tea Cup Tea Ceremony ceramic with porch box H2.9×5.5in.

This very old tea bowl of (織部)Oribe ware is beautiful.
Oribe ware is a tea bowl produced by Oribe Furuta, a disciple of (利久)Rikyu, the founder of the tea ceremony, and a military commander of the Momoyama period (1573 – 1603). It's completely different from the (楽)Raku tea bowl that his master Rikyu liked. If Rikyu's black bowl is (静)"quiet", Oribe's bowl is (動)"moving". Oribe's bowl feels playful.
The second characteristic of Oribe ware is its deformed shape, which is called 沓茶碗"Kutsu-chawan" because it resembles the shoes worn by priests.
At the time this was made, Japan had moved from the Warring States Period to a peaceful era, and young people who had no place to stay were called "Kabukimono. In other words, the hippies of the time were being popularized. In the tea ceremony as well, the conventional sense of beauty was overturned, and a new sense of values was sought. This is where 古田織部Furuta Oribe, who designed this tea bowl, came in. In order to respond to the demands of the times, Oribe must have pursued a free and vigorous spirit that was completely different from that of 利休Rikyu, whom he respected.
The second is the ever-changing patterns. There are geometric patterns, flowers, and other patterns that are drawn in a very simple manner.
Sometimes they are so bold that they look as if they were drawn by a child.
Oribe tea bowls were very popular in the Edo period and many pieces were produced.
This one is very large and sturdily made and has a strong presence.
