This is an old 信楽 Shigaraki ware pot made in the 1800s.
Shigaraki ware is considered one of Japan's six ancient kilns. Its history dates back to the Nara period. In particular, during the Warring States period, the simple style of Shigaraki ware was favored by tea masters, and tea bowls and water jars were made.
A distinctive feature is the unique texture created by wood ash adhering to the pottery, producing charred marks and natural glaze (bead glaze). This natural, elegant luster envelops the entire piece, while the earthenware's natural color tones have developed a warm patina over time.
The piece exudes a wonderful sense of age and has a strong presence even when displayed as is.
