EDO craft 1800s pair of Japanese antique plate old IMARI ware porcelain dishes, beautiful Plant flowers monk pattern tableware 6.8in/17.2cm.
This is a beautiful 伊万里IMARI ware dish, Another name for it is 古伊万里KoImari.
The very fine hand-drawn lines are beautiful. The plate itself is thin and delicate.
This dish is unusual in that the design is very gentle and elegant. Most of them have only floral patterns, but this dish has a diamond-like small pattern base with boldly arranged fans and uchiwa fans like frames. The unique motifs of flowers, plants, curtains, and scrolls and monks decorated within them tell a story.
In Japan, porcelain was introduced from the Korean Peninsula in the early Edo period. At that time, the main type of porcelain was indigo painted ware called gosu. Later, in the 1640s, colored porcelain was produced based on the techniques of the Chinese.
The "Sometsuke" porcelain, which had been the mainstream until then, was painted with Gosu on a transparent underglaze base, while "Iro-e" porcelain was painted with red, yellow, green, and other colored pigments on the glaze after firing, and then fired again at low temperatures. Later, porcelain with underglaze blue, colored and gilded decoration is also produced.
These are highly prized overseas and are still collected by many collectors and popular in Japan.

condition...
It is in very good condition. but there are small scratches and dirt due to aging. There are some unglazed areas on the underside of the bowl, but this is not a problem.
I list antiques that sometimes have chips, rubbings and cracks
as they are very old antiques so please check the images and understand the current
condition before buying.
