Japanese old "SUISEKI", scholars stone, indoor viewing stone, mountain shaped, with a hand carved pedestal, Japanese antique H7.9×W25in

"Suiseki" is a Japanese culture or hobby of viewing stones indoors.
This culture came from China in the 12th century, and getting popular among noble and samurai society.
They preferred and collected stones which resembles mountain and made a small landscape scenery in a tray filled with water. It has something in common with "bonsai" and "suiseki" are also displayed in "tokonoma", an alcove in a traditional Japanese room where art pieces are displayed.

This "suiseki" has a typical mountain shape with peaks and a broad base. Yet its most striking feature is its color of a red stone called as "Sado no Akaishi, exceptionally beautiful red stones found on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. The most striking feature of Sado Akaishi is its deep, vibrant red color. This hue is primarily due to iron and quartz combining under high temperature and pressure. In contrast, the stone's joints, regardless of their size, are vividly white, and combined with the stone's shape, they resemble glaciers or lingering snow.

The wooden pedestal was carved to fit exactly the bottom of the stone.
