This Antique Shigaraki Jar is a large Japanese ceramic jar from the Meiji era pottery period, featuring a stunning blue green glaze that resembles a waterfall glaze pattern. This vintage Japanese jar, crafted as Shigaraki ware pottery, measures H 19.3 inches by W 14.6 inches (about H 49 cm by W 37 cm), making it an impressive large antique vase perfect for both collectors and interior decorators. Originally designed as a tea storage jar, this traditional Japanese pottery piece combines practical use with artistic beauty, reflecting authentic Japanese folk art jar techniques.

The Antique Shigaraki Jar showcases the distinctive sudare (bamboo screen) pattern, created by natural flowing stripes of blue-green glaze that evoke the image of cascading water. This decorative ceramic vase is made from high-quality ceramic material and weighs approximately 411.8 oz (11,700 g). Despite its age, it remains in very good condition with only minor scratches and a small crack near the mouth that does not affect its water-tightness.

This Japanese folk art jar was produced in Shiga Prefecture, home to one of Japan’s six oldest kilns dating back to the Tempyo period (710–794). The jar’s historical value is complemented by its practical origins; these jars were used to transport and store tea leaves, marked by their distinctive striped glaze for easy identification.

Whether you are an antique collector or seeking a unique ikebana flower vase, this Antique Shigaraki Jar adds cultural depth and refined beauty to your space. Its large size makes it perfect for arranging sizable floral materials such as tree branches or simply displaying as an eye-catching interior decoration point.
