A Masterpiece of Artisan Branding:
This is an authentic "Shirushi-Banten," a prestigious garment worn by master carpenters and firemen. The back features a bold, hand-dyed mark: the Kanji "大" (DAI - meaning Big/Great) superimposed over a traditional carpenter's square ruler. The intricate patterns along the hem are actually stylized characters representing the name of the workshop—a secret code of artisan pride.

Design & "Iki" Aesthetics:

Hidden Flair: The inside of the cuffs is lined with a contrasting brown fabric. Folding back the sleeves reveals this "inner style," a classic Japanese aesthetic known as Iki.

Authentic Texture: Since it is unused, the fabric retains its original starch (stiffness). As you wear and wash it, the indigo will soften and develop a unique, beautiful "faded" character that only true antique cotton can achieve.

Modern Styling:
Today, this jacket transcends its original purpose. It serves as a stunning, one-of-a-kind overcoat when paired with modern denim and a T-shirt, or a spectacular wall-mounted art piece for a Japandi-style interior.

Condition & Character:
Exceptional "New-Old-Stock" Condition. It has been preserved for over a century with incredible care. The fabric is still crisp and starched. The color is a very dark navy blue.
